Meaning of the Name

Thalia, according to my copy of Bullfinch's Mythology, was the name of the Greek Muse of comedy. As this company is based on creative works, an association with a Muse seems appropriate. Thalia was also one of the three Graces, and in that aspect the name represents blooming. I hope to see this company grow and attract more high-quality game designers, as well as a community of people who enjoy games with deep-rooted gameplay. Games in general may be seen as a haven away from the stresses of everyday life, but some games present subjects that are offensive. I will only offer games which meet my personal standards of good taste, making this site a haven from mindless violence, gore, and explicit sexual content. In summary, the name Thalia's Haven was chosen to represent the fun, clean, mind-expanding games that I want to make available.

Philosophy and Goals

Thalia's Haven was started to promote and distribute games of all genres. After seeing many instances of copy protection that punished legitimate users for the sins of thieves, I decided to go entirely on the honor system. Copying software is naturally very cheap, so payments here represent two things: gratitude for enjoyable entertainment, and incentive to produce more high-quality games. The cost of publishing is kept as low as possible and profits go to the developers of games. Eventually, I hope to have enough new titles coming to move to a subscription service where paying customers get advance access to games before the general release.
